Most of the time you should call.
Yes. They were in December.
Yes. I saw one person pick up a take out order.
The food was great. We were seating at one of their private booths which was really great. It was a great experience!
Great historical restaurant with good portions. Alittle on the pricy side but your worth it for experience.
Love this place! (Prices are a bit too high, but delicious!)
My Father in law was the Executive Chef for many years there. Enjoyed great food and excellent service.
Delicious very filling. The fish is killer and calamari steak. Tiramasu was hella good. Perfectly filling portions. More expensive but cute atmosphere and great place for a date 😉
Old world vibe with superior food and service.
We hopped off the F line trolley at the 1st and Battery stop and made the short walk over to this amazing restaurant at the recommendation of an article in Time magazine since we weren’t sure where to eat lunch. First, it is so cool inside; there are individual wood paneled compartments (with curtains that close) like on a train on one side of the restaurant. I was told it was the 2nd oldest restaurant in San Francisco. Sure wonder what used to go on in those compartments back in the day :) There is also regular restaurant seating and outside seating. The antique bar is beautiful. We had a fantastic server and everyone was super nice!! I had the sand dabs (never heard of them before) but they were awesome and served with a delicious vegetable dish called caponata. My friend had the petrale sole, which she absolutely loved. The wine we had was super smooth too. I highly recommend this place!! Great fun.
Food and ambiance were great. It felt like you were transported to a different era. I had the cioppino it was delicious just wished it was alittle bit spicier.
I always enjoy Sam's Grill. They have great seafood and fine service.
Such an old school beautiful restaurant. The food is amazing and happy hour out back is fantastic. If you want some privacy, the wood paneled booths have curtains you can draw. Super special place with history.
Beautiful old San Francisco restaurant serving classic seafood dishes. The Petrale Sole was light and perfect. Our server made excellent suggestions and didn't rush us through our meal.
I love old school restaurants. Employees that have been at the restaurant and are vested in the success...this is the case at Sam's. Unfortunately, the food isn't keeping up. I ordered the "Jumbo" shrimp cocktail...I ate each of the shrimp in one small bite each...$18/6 and i swear they were barely even classified as Shrimp cocktail. I also had the blackened salmon...it was done well...along with it was broccoli which was terrible...mostly the stalk of this brocholonni?? $75 for this meal. I really wanted to add it to a place i would return, but just can't.
My wife and I happened upon this restaurant and absolutely loved it. The service was excellent, and the food was wonderful. We are from Nags Head, NC, and we know good seafood. I had the dish with scallops and risotto.
They serve big portions and for fair rates. very welcoming employees. Highly recommended.
Great service. Had the raw oysters and mixed seafood. I can’t complained. The food was great. When the waiter came to check how my meal was going, it was already gone. Typical $$$ price point for this level of establishment.
Great food! Excellent service. Sorry, I was a little underdressed.
This place is old San Francisco charm, wonderful food and service and love the gangster booths!
The place is really nice, the food is tasty and was served really quick! The only downside was that the girl at the register didn't really know the menu or the drinks, and since it was my first time here, I didn't exactly know what to order! But I definitely didn't go wrong with the San Francisco Bowl-- the price is reasonable for the amount and quality of food you get! Nice ambience here. Will be back!
Excellent french onion soup. Perfectly prepared trout w/ sweet corn. Best meal I've had in SFO in recent memory. Fast and friendly service too.
Friendly staff. We were there for drinks and snacks and so I have no idea what the rest of the menu is like. We enjoyed what we had though!
I live in Kona Hawaii. This place was recommended to me by one of my customers, a SF native. When we sat down, a large half loaf of sour dough bread was waiting for us. We ordered Fish and Chips (the fries were small cut, fried to perfection and they were excellent), the fish was well battered firm and tasty . Tarter sauce, amazing. I had a large bowl of New England style clam chowder, I believe it to be the best I've ever had. We also had Caesar with anchovies, very good. My son had a generous bowl of Cioppino, which looked quite good. Ask for a booth, they are in private spaces for parties of 3 or more, I'm told. Definitely recommend.
Good food and wine from an expansive menu. Service quite good. Not sure it was quite worth the money though.
I took a fellow businessman to Sam's. We sat in a private booth which was very nice, but the food was so-so. My onion soup starter was good, but my crab louie salad was watery and almost tasteless, no comparison whatsoever to the ones I get at Swan's Oyster Depot. My guest had sand dabs which he liked. Service was good.
We had such a lovely experience and yummy food while it was still nicer out so we got to enjoy the outside seating!
A favorite spot for tasty seafood. Two thumbs up for this place. The service here is attentive. Prices were fair. This place has good reviews for a reason.
Beautiful place to eat for lunch and dinner great foodðŸ”ðŸŸðŸ›ðŸðŸ°ðŸ¨ and awesome drinks ðŸ»ðŸ¹ðŸ·ðŸ¸ðŸ¾and good service as well .
This was our first place to dine during our San Francisco trip and by far the best. We had forgotten to make reservations and after calling 4 other restaurants we finally got a table at Sam's. Low and behold it is practically a landmark in San Fran! The decor was a bit old fashioned but the staff and food were outstanding. Over the course of our 6 day trip we tried many other restaurants and kept saying, we should have just gone back to Sam's instead!
Lovely historic restaurant in the heart of an Francisco's financial district.Good food, great service. Expensive, relative to restaurants where I live, but not unreasonable for the location. Not terribly busy when I went on a Monday night. An easy walk from most of the hotels in the area, but be aware of not familiar with the area that San Francisco is quite hilly. Google maps said "mostly flat," but it was quite a bit "down hill" from my hotel, which means the walk *back* was a lot harder. The French onion soup was amazing, just a hint of wine. The clam chowder also made with a hint of wine. Fresh seafood, which is kind of the point of a seafood place in San Francisco just minutes from Fisherman's Wharf. Overall, a nice experience.
Attentive wait staff. Food was good. Maybe the best calamari I have tasted recently. I had fried seafood platter. Shrimp and scallops were great. My colleagues liked the halibut. Would probably return.
A San Francisco classic. Wonderful seafood and an older, very knowledgeable wait staff
Fun to eat in such a classic old school restaurant, with waiters in jackets and bow ties. Looks like the bar is also a nice escape from the day...
Decent food but below average drinks
Great traditional seafood at reasonable prices and good service. Try the unique Celary Victor.
Great atmosphere! Waiter (Stefano) and staff were amazing and really friendly, food was also really good. Highly recommend for a nicer dinner.
Old school charm, great service, very good seafood. Exceptional clam chowder.
Delicious food, cool ambiance, great service, amazing meal. Would definitely recommend.
An old school SF tradition that goes back to 1867. Simple and fresh is the name of the game here. If sand dabs are on the menu, don't hesitate. The special seafood salad is an everytimer for me too.
Service was not that great but prices were not bad. Food was good overall.
Sam’s is my new favorite go-to! Its seafood is the freshest in SF. The lunch experience is classic SF and the service is friendly & professional. I now see why people have loved it for 150+ years. It’s a total gem! The atmosphere is perfect for a meeting, after work with coworkers or catching up with a friend.
We had our company holiday party here - 13 people in our group and it was fantastic. The food, the service, the atmosphere were all top notch. I would definitely recommend this spot, they are known for seafood.
My boyfriend and I have made this a regular date night spot after stumbling in one night on chance. It's absolutely delicious and the calamari will keep me coming back
Service impeccable food prepared perfectly and taste was Sam's excellent experience..
Crusty bread is so delicious! The rest of the food.. average to my taste :-( or we weren't lucky to choose the best ones. Anyway, really failed our expectations. Unfortunately.
Just not enough space by the table Old fashoon restaurantt Food was very good. Services excelent.
I have great memories of my dad taking me to Sam’s when I was first getting my career kicked off in SF. Having recently come back after years, I must say it’s still the same solid establishment! Great food, service, and that classic SF ambiance which takes you back in time. All the seafood here is fantastic.
Historic landmark, Noir décor, good staff, and fresh and amazing food. A must foodie destination in San Francisco.
Loved this place. A bit pricey, but worth it. The waitress was very kind the whole time. The salmon is really good. Definitely a good place to eat.
